Summer Fine Food Market

Burghley’s picturesque courtyards will be transformed into a foodie paradise over the August Bank Holiday, with a host of artisan stalls and street food vendors offering a wide variety of delicious food and drink. Sample Persian street food, wood fired pizzas, locally distilled gins, and award-winning ciders, all in the beautiful setting of Burghley House. Taking place 10am to 4pm on Saturday 26th until Monday 28th August, the Summer Fine Food Market is a great way to sample some of the best food that Stamford has to offer and support local businesses.

Burghley House is a beautiful stately home on the edge of Stamford and the estate is host to many events each year. Did you know that Burghley is also a popular filming location? The stately home and park has featured in smash-hit films and TV shows, such as Pride & Prejudice (2005), and more recently The Flash (2023) and The Crown (2016-2023). Stamford Corn Exchange Theatre Season

The Stamford Corn Exchange Theatre is a popular venue for live performances. In 2023, the intimate theatre is hosting a variety of shows, including comedy, music, and dance. Some of the September highlights include:

Wishbone Ash (September 7) – Watch, listen and be stunned by Wishbone Ash performing their iconic album, Live Dates, in full to mark its 50th anniversary. Classic songs including ‘The King Will Come’ and ‘Throw Down the Sword’ sound fresh as ever performed in front of an audience.

Almost the Bee Gees (September 8) – Throw back to the seventies with Almost the Bee Gees, a tribute band playing all the disco hits from the power trio.

Grease (September 14-16) – You’ve seen the iconic film; you know you’ll love the show! Stamford Showstoppers have put lightning in a bottle with this unmissable production of Grease!

Tom Davis: Underdog (September 21-22) – Catch comedian and Murder in Successville (2015-2017) star Tom Davis at the Stamford Corn Exchange for a night of belly-aching laughs with his autobiographical show.

Whitney (September 24) – Nya King celebrates the life and songs of soul and pop legend, Whitney Houston. This first-class performance is not to be missed be any Whitney fans.

Defender Burghley Horse Trials

Of the many upcoming events in Stamford in 2023, the biggest is the Defender Burghley Horse Trials. Taking place 31st August-3rd September, it’s one of the most prestigious horse trials in the world. The event attracts riders from all over and is a major tourist attraction for Burghley House. Visit to enjoy a weekend of dressage, cross country and show jumping.

Christmas in Stamford

The Stamford Christmas Market is a festive event taking place in the town centre on Sunday 26th November. The market features a variety of stalls selling Christmas gifts, food, and drinks. There’s also live music and entertainment not to be missed!

Don’t miss the Burghley Christmas Fair 23rd-26th November! At the Burghley Christmas Fair, you’ll find plenty of artisan food stalls as well as bespoke crafts and jewellery, the place to find Christmas presents.

Shakespeare Plays at Tolethorpe Hall

Looking ahead to next year, this is one you simply must plan in advance! Every summer the Stamford Shakespeare Company put on a rota of fantastic plays at Tolethorpe Hall. Based just outside Stamford in an open-air theatre, this is a perfect summer’s evening out.
