Stocking Up Bourne Food Bank for Winter

MoreStore Self Storage are proud to be sponsoring Bourne Food Bank as one of their charities this year.

The food bank is run entirely by volunteers and has been helping those in need for over 10 years. Last year alone they supplied food and other essentials to around 500 families in and around Bourne.

Ed Young from MoreStore Self Storage’s marketing team recently visited Bourne Food Bank to meet Jake Jacobs, a volunteer.

Jake gave plenty of insight into the operations at Bourne Food Bank. He explained “A few years after opening, we were able to widen our offerings to include everyday essentials such as toiletries, nappies, cleaning products, and pet food”.

“Whilst most packages are collected, some have to be delivered by volunteers to those who are unable to attend the food bank due to circumstances such as reduced mobility and lack of transport” he continued.

MoreStore’s sponsorship has provided funding for supplies, allowing the food bank to be stocked up on important items that it lacks in donations.

Ed from MoreStore said “It’s clear that Bourne Food Bank provide a vital service for the community, and it’s been inspiring to see the passion of all the volunteers firsthand. We’re really pleased to know that our sponsorship is helping them get ahead of the busy winter period so they can provide to those in need”

With the ongoing cost-of-living crisis, the team are expecting to be inundated this Christmas period, already their busiest time of year.

They are currently requesting donations for the following items:

  • Tinned Meat
  • UHT Milk
  • Squash
  • Tinned or Packet Potatoes
  • Snack items
  • Pasta / cooking sauces
  • Washing Powder / Gel
  • Washing Liquid
  • Deodorant
  • Razors & Shaving Foam

This list is regularly updated on their website. Rice, pasta, and toilet rolls are among items that they are receiving fewer donations of due to rising prices.

Bourne Food Bank can be found at The Butterfield Centre and is open Tuesdays 1pm-3pm and Fridays 9am-11am.

Donations must be delivered to the food bank during opening hours, or to Bourne Tesco, Sainsbury’s, or Co-Op (Elsea Park). Various churches in Bourne and surrounding villages also regularly collect donations for the food bank.

Want to get involved? Bourne Food Bank are always looking for more regular volunteers and encourage anyone interested in sparing some time for them to get in touch.
