Moving to Bourne

Ever wondered why is Bourne such a great place to live?

Bourne is an historic market town that became known for the purity of its water, its parks and woodland. You’ll spot the small river to your left as you drive towards Bourne from the south – meandering through picturesque parkland. Turn to your right and you’ll see Bourne Eau house – a nod to the name of the local river which rises from an artesian spring.

Situated in the heart of England close to the A1 and on the old North Road to Lincoln, Bourne is known as a great town for families. It has some of the best secondary schools in the country for starters – Bourne Grammar and Bourne Academy. And happily for parents of toddlers and younger children, it also happens to have renowned primary schools too, including Bourne Abbey and Bourne Westfield.

Aside from the schools, it has four major supermarkets and a range of independent shops and cafes in its town centre. But its also known for its open spaces including parks, recreational areas, ponds, and famously, its woods. Bourne Woods are cherished in the town as an important natural resource for residents. Local families enjoy this ancient woodland with its winding paths, ponds and wildlife.

Bourne is one of a small number of towns and cities that has its own Lido. Loved by residents and visitors alike, it comes alive in the summer and is run entirely by volunteers. The lido is situated on Abbey Lawns which also hosts the towns tennis club, cricket club, petanque club and bowls club.

Bus services run to all local towns and to its closest city – Peterborough, which is just a 45 minute train ride to London’s King Cross, making it an increasingly desirable town for commuters too.

Bourne has a strong sense of community – a recent Observatory research project showed that nearly 90% of residents felt the town’s people got on well together. This coupled with the vast number of clubs, the diverse housing stock and excellent transport links make it a great place to live.
